The Illusion of Instant Success: "Why isn't my development progressing as I desire?"

Embarking on the path of training mediumship development is a profound journey that intertwines the spiritual and the personal. Many aspirants find themselves grappling with a common concern: "Why isn't my development progressing as I desire?" This introspection often reveals a pivotal insight—the influence of a materialistic mindset as a significant barrier to spiritual growth.

The Material Mindset: A Hidden Obstacle to Development

In our daily lives, we're conditioned to perceive the world through our outwards pointing physical senses, leading to an inherent desire for immediate results and external validation. We observe others' successes, yearning to replicate their achievements, and often measure our progress against theirs. This comparison stems from a misunderstanding: the laws governing the physical world differ fundamentally from those of the spiritual one. While the physical world operates on tangible actions and observable outcomes, spiritual laws are rooted in conscious understanding and inner transformation.

People often ask: Why can they do it and I can’t? What is their secret? Why does everything seem to work for them and not for me?  These questions come from a space of external observation, rather than internal reflection. In a society driven by achievement and competition, it's easy to fall into the trap of believing that success in mediumship should follow the same pattern as success in the material world—where effort equals immediate results. However, spiritual development does not conform to the logic of material success.

The Chase for External Recognition vs. Internal Growth

We live in an era of instant gratification. If we want knowledge, we Google it. If we want approval, we post on social media and wait for likes. If we want validation, we look to external sources to confirm our worth. This mindset infiltrates spiritual development as well. People seek to replicate another’s spiritual ability rather than focusing on deepening their own unique connection. They want immediate experiences, clear visions, accurate messages, and undeniable proof that they are "getting it right." But this approach is flawed because it places the focus outward rather than inward.

Mediumship is not about reaching for something external; it is about understanding and working with what already exists within you. This is where many struggle. They look for external benchmarks of success, rather than cultivating the internal world where true growth occurs.

Turning Inward: The True Path to Spiritual Achievement

Our tendency to seek external confirmation can divert attention from the internal processes essential for spiritual development. Thoughts, emotions, and consciousness are the keys to unlocking spiritual potential. Unlike physical success, which are often quantifiable, spiritual achievement is an internal state of being, characterised by personal growth and deeper understanding.

Think of it like a musician. Someone may know how to play all the notes and read all the music, but if they lack emotional connection and understanding, their performance will lack depth and soul. Similarly, a medium who focuses solely on external technique and mechanics without internal self-awareness will struggle to develop a deep and meaningful connection with spirit.

The Crossroads: Victimhood vs. Wisdom

At this juncture, we face a choice: adopt the role of a victim, lamenting our perceived lack of progress, or embrace wisdom by introspecting and extracting lessons from our current experiences. Many fall into the trap of self-doubt, believing that they are simply not capable or that the spirit world is not responding to them. They wear the victim badge, repeating the same complaints:

  • "I try and try, but I get nothing."

  • "Others seem to do it so naturally, but I struggle."

  • "Maybe I’m just not meant to be a medium."

These thoughts do nothing but reinforce a cycle of stagnation and self sabotage . However, those who shift their perspective and begin to observe rather than react will start to see where their learning truly lies. Every frustration, every block, every "failure" is an opportunity for deeper self-awareness.

Choosing wisdom over being the victim, means recognising that struggles are part of the journey. The process of mediumship development is not about getting somewhere, but about understanding yourself on a profound level. When you stop resisting and start listening to what each challenge is teaching you, your development naturally progresses.

Understanding your Training Mediumship Development: Mindset, Heartset, and Soulset

True empowerment in mediumship arises from transforming our mindset, heartset, and soulset. This approach nurtures empathy, compassion, and spiritual wisdom, guiding us toward genuine self-mastery. It’s essential to recognise that while learning mechanical processes in a classroom setting provides foundational knowledge, the depth of understanding comes from personal, experiential engagement.

Knowing how to operate an instrument is valuable, but understanding the optimal environment for its use ensures the best outcomes. You could have the finest violin, but if you play it in a room with terrible acoustics, it will never sound as beautiful as it should. Similarly, mediumship thrives in an environment of patience, self-reflection, and emotional depth. If you rush, demand, or force experiences, you create an internal environment that is not conducive to spiritual growth.

Beyond Titles: Embracing Authentic Development

Pursuing badges, certificates, recognition, or titles can lead us astray from true development. Authentic growth is reflected in the cultivation of knowledge, understanding, emotional intelligence, and rich personal experiences. It’s about delving deep into oneself and comprehending how our learning resonates within, aligning with our conscious intentions and purpose.

This alignment breeds inspiration, truth, and empathy, extending beyond ourselves to embrace others' perspectives on life. Development is not about proving something to the world; it is about proving something to yourself. The most spiritually developed people do not seek attention or validation—they radiate presence, wisdom, and authenticity.

The Essence of Spiritual Development

In essence, spiritual development is an inward journey. By shifting focus from external comparisons to internal exploration, we pave the way for genuine growth. This path leads to an internal sense of success that radiates outwardly, free from ego and effort. The key to your spiritual progression lies within—through personal understanding and the courage to look inward, rather than outward, for validation.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I practicing patience, or am I rushing my development?

  • Am I truly listening to what spirit is teaching me, or am I too focused on what I want to achieve?

  • Am I cultivating my inner world, or am I looking for external proof of my abilities?

These questions will lead you to the real work of mediumship development. The sooner you accept that this is an internal process, the sooner you will begin to experience authentic, deep, and lasting growth.

Embrace this journey with patience and self-compassion, knowing that each step inward brings you closer to the authentic development you seek.
